The Hextech Crafting system, along with Hextech Chests was added to League of Legends back in Season 6. It’s a system that allows players to earn and unlock various in-game content. It is one of the few ways a free-to-play player can get access to the myriad of paid content the game has to offer.

By playing the game, players are able to earn Hextech Chests, which they can open to obtain Skin Shards, Ward Skins, Emote Shards, and various other goodies. Each season, a player can obtain up to a total of 52 Hextech Chests. This number can be slightly higher or lower depending on the length of the season.

So, you can easily get around 30-40 skins from Hextech Chests per season. Add to it various seasonal rewards and you can rack up quite a number of free skins.

That said, you can only have one Hextech Chest per week and store up to 4 Hextech Chests at a time. So, if you want all 52 Hextech Chests, it’s best to get the chests before they exceed the limit. This is why it is very important to keep track of your Hextech Chests, especially for the non-regular players.

In this article, we will go through the ways you can easily earn and keep track of your Hextech Chests.

How to Acquire Hextech Chests

Acquiring Hextech Chests is a pretty simple process, just hop into the game and play, simple.

Well, that may have been a little misleading. In order to actually get the chests, you first need to play a matchmade game, so no Co-op vs AI, and earn an S- or higher rating. Make sure you have an ample amount of farm (unless you are playing support), have a positive KDA, buy some Control Wards, and you got yourself an S.

But if you are struggling with the S rating on your own, you can always invite your friends to play with you. Even if your friends get S- or higher, you can still earn chests.

So, you followed all the steps and got an S- on your favorite champion, but you didn’t get a chest; Why? There are two possible reasons for you not receiving a chest.

First, chests might not be available at the time. As mentioned before, players can collect one Hextech Chest per week. If you have claimed this week’s chest, you might need to wait for next week.

In the bottom left of your Profile tab, you can see the amount of chests you can still obtain. In the above picture, you can see that I have 4 Hextech Chests remaining. If your shows 0, then you might need to wait another week.

Second, if you have already received a Hextech Chest on a champion, you cannot receive another in this season. So, you must wait till the season is over in order to get another chest on that specific champion.

Note: You must own the champion in order to get Hextech Chests on the champion. Free to Play champions do not count.

With that out of the way, let’s talk about how you can check if you already have a chest on a champion because this can get hard to keep track of.

Keeping Track of Hextech Chests

It is pretty simple to check whether you received a chest on a champion or not. There are a few ways you can do it.

The Collection Tab

Open your League of Legends client. Click on the Collection Tab and then go to Champions. Here you can see all the champions in the game. If you uncheck the “Show Unowned” option, it will only show you the champions you own. We suggest you sort by champion mastery so that the champions you play most will show up first.

Also, Sorting by champion mastery lets you see which of your main champions you have yet to receive a chest with. You should collect them first, as getting an S- or higher on your main champions should be easier.

Here, you can see that I have already collected chests on Kha’Zix, Nasus, and Kai’Sa. There’s a chest icon at the top right of the champion portrait that indicates that I have already earned a chest on that champion.

During Champion Select

When in Champion Select, you can press on the tab that looks like a chest. It will show all the champions that you can earn a chest with. This is relatively simple, and you can then choose which champion you want to play in that game.

The third and final option for keeping track of Hextech Chests is to use third-party programs or websites. ChampionMastery.GG is a website that allows you to quickly check if you have earned a chest on that champion or not.

Simply input your Riot ID and your region, and it will show you your Mastery Level, Mastery Points, and even Chests.
